Our Squidstat Scientific Spotlight Series highlights the exciting work of researchers using Squidstat instruments around the world.

This edition features BioZen Batteries, Inc, a battery technology company commercializing safe, low-cost organic Redoxolyte™ Electrolytes for flow batteries, as well as their Redoxino™ Test Systems that accelerate the R&D innovations needed to bring flow batteries to market.

Squidstats for Flow Batteries

Flow battery innovation faces a practical conundrum: researchers need cycling data to justify scaling up a new material, but conventional testing can require scaling up just to collect those data. New redox molecules often start as milligram batches, while experimental membranes and electrodes may exist only as small samples. BioZen’s Four-Channel Redoxino™ Test System supports four experiments in parallel, using as little as 1 mL of electrolyte per side in each cell, with integrated circulation and atmosphere control. Researchers can run comparisons, controls, and replicates while conserving scarce materials, generating evidence before committing to larger batches.

BioZen uses the Squidstat Cycler - Base Model to test Redoxolyte™ Electrolytes in exactly these types of experiments. The Squidstat leads connect to the internal flow cells through 2 mm bullet connectors integrated into the Test System back panel, keeping instrument connections accessible and straightforward. Squidstat’s compact footprint, programmable cycling, and multichannel capabilities make it a strong fit for Redoxino’s parallel testing workflow. Together, the systems help turn limited material supplies into statistically-significant electrochemical performance data.

Visit BioZen’s booth October 19–21 at Flow Batteries North America 2026 at The Camby Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, to explore Redoxino™ Test Systems and see Redoxolyte™ Electrolytes for yourself. (Admiral Instruments will also be exhibiting!). Meet both teams to discuss your next experiment and how better chemistry and better testing tools can bring flow batteries to market faster!
