The Admiral Instruments team recently had the opportunity to attend Beyond Lithium Ion XVI (BLI-XVI) from June 22-25, 2026 at the University of California, Berkeley. As one of the sponsors, we were excited to support an event that brought together researchers, engineers, and industry professionals from universities, national laboratories, and companies to discuss the latest advances in electrochemical energy storage and conversion.

We enjoyed connecting with researchers working on next-generation battery technologies while showcasing the Squidstat Plus potentiostat and Squidstat Cycler - Base Model. We did live demos of EIS measurements, battery cycling, and other electrochemical testing, which made it easy to answer questions, show attendees our software, and have conversations about different electrochemical testing techniques and battery research applications.

The agenda covered a wide range of exciting topics, including solid-state batteries, lithium-metal batteries, sodium-ion technologies, aqueous systems, battery safety, AI and machine learning for battery research, and grid-scale energy storage. It was great getting to hear about the latest research directly from the scientists and engineers pushing these technologies forward.

One of our favorite parts of the BLI-XVI was simply talking with people. Whether it was catching up with familiar faces or meeting researchers for the first time, every conversation offered a chance to learn something new and hear about the exciting projects happening across the battery research community.

Highlights from BLI-XVI

Supporting BLI-XVI – We were glad to be part of BLI-XVI as a conference sponsor, helping support an event that brings together researchers from universities, national laboratories, and industry to exchange ideas and discuss the future of electrochemical energy storage.

Live instrument demos – We brought the Squidstat Cycler - Base Model and Squidstat Plus potentiostat, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions about our instruments, software, and electrochemical testing capabilities.

Hands-on visits – During the trip, the team also had the opportunity to visit the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, and Ambrosia Energy for hands-on instrument demonstrations and discussions with researchers and students. It was great getting to see their work up close, answer questions in real time..

Learning from the talks – The conference featured outstanding presentations on solid-state batteries, lithium-metal batteries, sodium-ion technologies, AI and machine learning for battery research, battery safety, and many other topics shaping the future of energy storage. It was exciting to hear about the latest research directly from the scientists leading these efforts.

Reconnecting with users – Reconnecting with users – It was great catching up with existing Squidstat users and hearing about the innovative projects they're working on in both academia and industry. We always enjoy seeing how our instruments are being used to support new research, and these conversations often lead to new ideas and collaborations.

Student poster presentation– We really enjoyed speaking with students during their poster session and seeing the wide range of battery research being presented. There's a lot of exciting work happening across the community, and it was great getting to hear about it firsthand.

Exploring the University of California, Berkeley Campus – Between technical sessions, meetings, and campus visits, we had the chance to enjoy the beautiful University of California, Berkeley campus and explore a few local restaurants while spending time with colleagues and friends.
